What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post designed to act like a natural tooth root, providing a strong foundation for replacing one or more missing teeth.
The implant is surgically placed into the jaw bone, where it fuses with the bone over time to securely support a tooth replacement such as a crown or denture.
The benefits of dental implants don't stop with the aesthetics of restoring your smile – they also help prevent nearby teeth from shifting, improve bite alignment and jaw comfort, and support the natural shape of your face.
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
When a tooth is missing, the surrounding teeth can start to shift into the empty space, leading to bite problems and misalignment. Additionally, the jaw bone in that area may begin to deteriorate over time, reducing support for nearby teeth and increasing the risk of further tooth loss.
The Dental Implant Process
This dental process consists of multiple steps, completed over the span of several appointments.
During the first appointment, your dentist will surgically insert the implant into your jaw bone beneath the gum tissue. As the area heals over the next three to six months, the implant will fuse with the bone.
Once you're healed, you’ll return to our office, and our dentist will take the necessary impressions and imaging of your mouth to craft a custom tooth replacement, such as a crown or denture. While waiting for your permanent tooth replacement to be created, you may be given a temporary crown or denture.
Once your permanent tooth restoration is ready, it will be attached to the implant, matching the appearance of the rest of your smile.
